Interstate 94 and U.S. 41 are broad major north-south routes which make auto travel convenient for Highland Park residents. Five east-west arteries cross the community, connecting with suburbs to the west.
Convenient access Modern Metra commuter trains travel to and from Highland Park twenty-five times a day. An express ride to Chicago takes just over 30 minutes from any of the four stations in the community.
Route 471 - Highland Park - Deerfield
Provides service between the Highland Park Metra Station and Deerbrook Shopping Center in Deerfield. The area served is primarily residential and commercial with some industrial locations. Certain rush hour trips serve the office complexes along Wilmot and Saunders Roads in Deerfield and Riverwoods.
Route 472 - Highland Park - Highwood
Provides service between downtown Highland Park and Barat College. The line serves Highland Park High School, Fort Sheridan Metra Station and residential areas.
Route 473 - Highland Park - Northbrook Court
Provides service between the Highland Park Metra Station and Deerbrook Center in Deerfield. Serves residential and commercial areas as well as Northbrook Court.
Route 213 - Green Bay Road
Provides service from Northbrook Court to the Davis Street CTA Purple Line Station in Evanston making stops near New Trier High School, Ravinia Festival, and the Chicago Botanic Gardens. This route parallels a portion of the Metra Union Pacific North Line.
Route 626 - Skokie Valley Limited
Provides express service from the Skokie Swift CTA Yellow Line Station to the Lake-Cook Office Corridor and Lincolnshire. The route travels express via the Edens Expressway from Dempster to Dundee Road. There is limited service between the Buffalo Grove parking Lot and the Skokie Swift.
The Greenways Plan "envisions the development of a comprehensive, connected system of greenways,
including both on-street and off-street routes, that will make walking and bicycling safer, more enjoyable,
